{"id":143,"date":"2015-06-29T08:00:07","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T07:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markus-kromer.de\/wordpress\/?p=143"},"modified":"2015-09-15T09:18:21","modified_gmt":"2015-09-15T08:18:21","slug":"special-session-on-sne-ia-at-ewass-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markus-kromer.de\/wordpress\/special-session-on-sne-ia-at-ewass-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Special session on SNe Ia at EWASS 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-148\" src=\"http:\/\/markus-kromer.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/EWASS2015_logo-300x270.png\" alt=\"EWASS2015_logo\" width=\"220\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markus-kromer.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/EWASS2015_logo-300x270.png 300w, https:\/\/markus-kromer.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/EWASS2015_logo.png 481w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/>On June 25 we hosted a special session &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/eas.unige.ch\/EWASS2015\/session.jsp?id=Sp17\">Hunting down the elusive progenitors and explosion mechanisms of Type Ia supernovae<\/a>&#8221; as part of the annual European Week of Astronomy and Space Science which\u00a0took place\u00a0on Tenerife (Spain) from June 22-26 .<\/p>\n<p>Our special session aimed at bringing together theorists and\u00a0observers to give an overview about the current observational state of\u00a0the art, present recent theoretical progress and discuss the open\u00a0problems in SNe Ia. The programme consisted of a total of 3 invited\u00a0talks, 15 contributed talks and 9 posters with participants coming\u00a0from Australia, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Russia,\u00a0Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.\u00a0With about 50 scientists attending, the session\u00a0was quite a success.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was divided in three blocks covering multi-wavelength\u00a0observations (invited speaker: Assaf Sternberg), binary population\u00a0synthesis, rates and progenitor searches (invited speaker: Silvia\u00a0Toonen), and theoretical explosion models and their comparison to\u00a0observational data (invited speaker: Pablo Loren Aguilar).
